The Anti-Bullying Magician

PRESENTS

The 'BAND Together for a Bully-Free School' Show

Summary of the show:

The show is a fun, magical and interactive assembly presentation that teaches children about the important messages of bullying and how everyone’s feelings are special and important.

The show is aimed at Key stage 1 and 2 children and lasts approx. 45 minutes.

It links in directly with the National Curriculum, P.S.H.E. and SEAL.

Sarah uses humour, audience interaction, magic, music and visual fun props to encourage the children

to ask for help with bullying issues, to respect each others’ feelings and to work together to become a bully-free school.

The show begins with a story about 4 children at a bus stop. Sarah keeps referring back to the story using the BAND acronym to help convey the key messages.

This approach is really effective in teaching the children what bullying is, how it hurts peoples’ feelings and why people might use bullying behaviour.

It also helps communicate that we are all different, but also special and most importantly encourages children to help each other and not be a bystander of bullying.

The show teaches children the important facts about BULLYING.

The show helps children develop the skills to identify bullying behaviour and examining the ways to not only deal with it when it happens, but also how to prevent it from happening in the first place.

The show indicates how the children might feel in a bullying situation and then illustrates by magic and

in a fun and non-threatening way, how to help themselves.

The challenge when creating this show, was to teach this critical topic in a light, upbeat and non-threatening manner without sacrificing any of the important messages that the children need to hear.

Most of the material and terminology used in the show has been developed over many years and coincides with the National Curriculum, and the show is compatible with the DfES ‘SEAL’ initiative.

Within the SEAL package, bullying is to be tackled using preventative and reactive measures and research shows that such proactive measures like Anti-Bullying Week, can reduce significantly the numbers of children being bullied and therefore reduce sickness and absent days.

The magic routines are filled with comedy, audience participation and are alternated with messages.

The show is designed for key stage 1 and 2 children and uses the BAND acronym, which allows the children to easily remember the key points.

The entire show evolves around the idea that if we all work together as a team, we can make the school become bully-free.

At the end of the show, the answers that have come from the children recorded throughout the show,

are given to you. This can be used to further enhance the bullying teaching within the school and can

be linked to your own anti-bullying charter.

The show is combined with teaching tools and visual aids such as.... astounding magic, story telling,

role playing and complete audience involvement and participation - a totally interactive show!

The ‘BAND together for a bully-free school’ show is able to grab and maintain the attention of any

group of primary school children for approx. 45 minutes. They won’t even know they are learning until

its too late!

Magic not only has no language barrier and a great attention grabber, but it is also a great visual aid. Magical props and effects are sprinkled throughout the show to illustrate the points and clarify the messages. Isn’t that a great way to learn?

The children will leave the show with coping strategies, new skills to deal with their next bullying encounter, the confidence and assurance that they are not alone, but the motivation to help create a

bully-free school as a team.

The ‘BAND together for a Bully-Free school show’ has been well received and is attractive to schools because of its simple effectiveness and modest fee.
